Sodium Borates: Expanding the Electrolyte Selection for Sodium‐Ion Batteries
نویسندگان
چکیده
Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) are a promising grid-level storage technology due to the abundance and low cost of sodium. The development new electrolytes for SIBs is imperative since it impacts battery life capacity. Currently, sodium hexafluorophosphate (NaPF6) used as benchmark salt, but highly hygroscopic generates toxic HF. This work describes synthesis series borate salts, with electrochemical studies revealing that Na[B(hfip)4]⋅DME (hfip=hexafluoroisopropyloxy, OiPrF) Na[B(pp)2] (pp=perfluorinated pinacolato, O2C2(CF3)4) have excellent performance. [B(pp)2]− anion also exhibits high tolerance air water. Both give more stable electrode-electrolyte interfaces than conventionally NaPF6, demonstrated by impedance spectroscopy cyclic voltammetry. Furthermore, they greater cycling stability comparable capacity NaPF6 SIBs, shown in commercial pouch cells.

15 صفحه اولTesting of gel-electrolyte batteries for wheelchairs.
A simple test rig was developed to measure the capacity of the lead-acid gel-electrolyte batteries used to power wheelchairs. Results of 166 tests revealed a wide scatter of battery life with different users and also showed that, in many cases, the two batteries used in a wheelchair became unequal in charge capacity after some time in use. It is recommended that pairs of batteries should be cha...
متن کاملSodium-difluoro(oxalato)borate (NaDFOB): a new electrolyte salt for Na-ion batteries.
A new electrolyte salt, sodium-difluoro(oxalato)borate (NaDFOB), was synthesized and studied, which enables excellent reversible capacity and high rate capability when used in Na/Na0.44MnO2 half cells. NaDFOB has excellent compatibility with various common solvents used in Na-ion batteries, in strong contrast to the solvent dependent performances of NaClO4 and NaPF6. In addition, NaDFOB possess...

DOI: 10.1002/aenm.201500174 The continuous pulverization of alloy anodes during repeated sodiation/desodiation cycles is the major reason for the faster capacity decay. However, if these elements can form a compound (such as Sn 4 P 3 ) after each Na extraction, the pulverization of these elements can be partially repaired and the accumulation of pulverization can be terminated. Therefore, we ca...
متن کاملElectrochemical Performance of Porous Carbon/Tin Composite Anodes for SodiumIon and LithiumIon Batteries
The electrochemical performance of mesoporous carbon (C)/tin (Sn) anodes in Na-ion and Li-ion batteries is systematically investigated. The mesoporous C/Sn anodes in a Na-ion battery shows similar cycling stability but lower capacity and poorer rate capability than that in a Li-ion battery. The desodiation potentials of Sn anodes are approximately 0.21 V lower than delithiation potentials. The ...
